Bosch Electric Tankless Water Heater
Bosch Electric Tankless Water Heaters- Things are heating up!
Bosch is a leader in tank less water heaters and have many models to choose from, from electric, natural gas and the new line of solar tank less heaters. Before you even begin to look at a purchase option it is important to look at warranties. Bosch offers one of the strongest warranties in the tank less heater industry. Each model comes with a 10 year warranty which covers any defects in materials within the unit. External parts carry a one year warranty, and with the average life span of a Bosch unit currently around 2o years it is an investment that will pay off for any home owner contemplating a upgrade or retrofit for their home.
Many upgrades are done by do it yourself which does indeed save considerable amount of money but if you have never done any plumbing this is NOT a task that you want to embrace. Bosch electric tank less water heaters come with a very extensive installation kit and they do provide a 24 hour customer support line for assistance for if you decide to replace your heater at 3 in the morning you should be covered.
Additional installation accessories are available including wall ventilators, outdoor vents, back flow prevention kits, wall mounting brackets and remote thermostats. And before you buy your model check to see if your unit is eligible for the federal tax credit of $300 which takes a chunk out of the purchase price and you may want to check with your local energy providers as local utilities offer additional incentives for energy efficient upgrades.
Lets take a look at the 2 Bosch electric tank less water heaters, the Powerstar AE115 & AE 125 and the one you are going to choose is going to depend on several factors and the primary being your geographic location and the temperature of the ground water, or how cold the water is that hits the input of the heater.
PowerStar AE115
Recommended for the lower US states where ground water temperature are not any lower then 60 degrees.
Why the limitation of ground water temperature? Simple, for both units the lower the ground water temperature the more energy and time is required to bring the water up to desired temperature, and on the smaller units it will increase heat time as well as energy consumption.
The AE115 can also be used as an addition to the AE125 as a point of use heater, meaning if you have a whole house heater but a bathroom farther away for the source and want the ability to add an additional heater closer to the bathroom then you can install a smaller unit in closer proximity to the bathroom and save water costs.

PowerStar AE125
Is the unit for larger home or more gallon requirements
- Provides 3.7 gallons per minute for water usage at 105°F* – 2 sinks simultaneously or 1 shower or bathtub.
- Provides 3.0 gallons per minute for water usage at 115°F* – 2 sinks simultaneously or 1 dishwasher.
- Energy factor of .94, energy efficiency of 94% weight of 22lbs, runs on 240v
So what are we going to look for when choosing a model?
Size of home, number of people in that home, frequency of water usage, area of the country, ground water temperature and that should give you a good idea what to choose. Remember that even though these tank less units use less energy they use a lot in short spurts so if you are in a cold area with a under powered unit you will be using more energy then necessary which would totally defeat the purpose of energy conservation in the first place.
Whichever Bosch electric tankless water heater you choose you will have made the right choice for your home and the environment, and that is a green thing…
